We are forever searching for bucket list places. Places we want to see and places we want our girls to see and experience. On our adventures we have came across some really interesting places!! You may have heard of them all or some, who knows but they left us with memories we always come back to.
📍Farina - Ghost Town
Farina is in the outback of South Australia about 55km south of Maree. It sits along the old route of the Ghan Railway. Farina is a former mining and farming community and a town that once had two hotels, an underground bakery, a bank, two breweries, a general store, an Anglican church, five blacksmiths, a school and a brothel. We decided to camp at Farina so we could spend time exploring the ruins and the cemetery of the town. We love history. The cost is $5 per person and there are flushing toilets and a hot shower. Maybe even a ghost or two? When we were there, we were the only ones camping but we did have some strange happenings with the toilet doors. There’s plenty of room though even if there were lots of others camping. Our kids loved walking around all the old ruins and reading what they once were. The signage is fantastic and easy to navigate. There’s just so much history here!
📍Wooyung Beach Holiday Park
Wooyung Beach Holiday Park is located about 35 mins from Tweed Heads and has powered and non powered sites as well as an eco cabin and three motel rooms. This is a lizard lovers paradise 🤣 or mini dinosaurs as my nephew calls them. They are everywhere here. We played spot the lizard, it wasn’t hard. BUT it’s not just the lizards we loved at this place, The hosts are truly amazing and so accommodating. And the park is just so relaxing. We came in late arvo with our 23’11 van. They met us at the road and let us park over two sites, staying hitched up as we only had one night before we had to be in QLD. This laidback caravan park is a rare gem!! And it’s right across from the most beautiful, uncrowded beach. To me it almost has a tropical hideaway feel to it. It’s definitely on our list to go back. 📍Cha Cha Chocolate, Bundaberg
Surely the name says it all? Cha Cha Chocolate is located in Bundaberg, Queensland and this place is a real life Willy Wonka's. It stocks every kind of chocolate and candy you can think of, including the famous Wonka Bar. Their shop and displays are amazing and change with the celebrations. They have the most vibrant wreaths. I put this place on our list simply because its so unique. Its well worth the visit if your in Bundy. They post Australia wide too. 📍George's Diner, Conway Beach
George's Diner is located at Conway Beach, only a 30 min drive from Airlie inside the Big 4 Caravan Park and its open from 9am - 3pm everyday. You will travel back in time with it's retro styling. It's super cool. We decided to stay at the caravan park for a few nights to check it out and explore the area. The sites were spacious and nice and grassy. There is a pool and splash park as well as a train ride for the kids that operates daily. We ventured to the diner on our second day for lunch. The burgers and milkshakes were so good, as was the all day breakfast! (You don't have to be staying at the caravan park to visit the dinner.) There is something for everyone on the menu. They even have spiders! I've attached the menu here
This is just four of the places we have loved whilst on our adventures. There's so many more and so many we are yet to discover. Please share with us your fav places! Happy Travels
